Waterlase®
Lasers Show Dentistry in a Whole New Light!
No shots, no drilling, no pain and/or numbness at the dentist... sound like a dream come true? Not any more, now that the next generation of progressive dentistry has arrived at our office, in the form of our new Waterlase® dental laser.
Lasers are the dominant instrument of choice for eye surgery, dermatology and other surgical applications. It was only a matter of time before they became the instrument of choice in dentistry, and I am pleased to announce that we are now equipped with this revolutionary new dental tool that allows our patients to have dental procedures accomplished without pain in most cases, without anesthesia (and therefore without needles and the accompanying "rubbery lip/ numb face" feeling), and without hearing the sound of the dental drill!
In addition to fixing cavities and replacing fillings, the Waterlase® dental laser also gives us the full ability to complete precise, bloodless and painless surgery on gum tissue, allowing our patients the optimum smile without any of the discomforts of earlier technologies.
The Waterlase® works because of its Hydrokinetic energy, which is produced by emitting laser energy into a spray of water. The water is energized to the point that it is capable of cutting a wide range of human tissues, including enamel (the hardest substance in the body), bone, cartilage and soft tissue quickly and with little or no discomfort. The laser technology also allows us to avoid any "side effects" of using a traditional drill. For example, when a high-speed drill comes into contact with a tooth, it causes micro fissures (small cracks) that weaken the tooth structure and may eventually allow decay to set in.
Our new Waterlase® dental laser produces no heat, vibration or loud noise - three of the most uncomfortable aspects of air turbine drill procedures. Add to that the fact that most patients are able to undergo Waterlase® dental treatments comfortably, without anesthesia, and you'll see why we are so excited to announce this new technology in our practice!
